While LaN routinely traverses time zones to direct multi-day workshop experiences, we welcome opportunities to engage over full academic semesters valuing our ability to take the latest potentialities from recent global workshops to greater depths of study in full semester courses.  In turn, LaN strives to connect student work with feedback from our international collaborators


A studio experience provided by LaN is far more like having a project director than an instructor with pre-set assignments and deadlines.  The quality we are most looking to instill in our students is the self-driven pursuit & management of resources and the ability to formulate a process for which ones takes on accountability.  This often is best provoked through unforeseen announced project parameters and customized requirements per student / project.


LaN knows collaboration is vital to one's design education.  Testing various degrees of collaboration throughout a semester we are instigating  the play-out of varying roles, parallel studies, and strategic resolve to friction. Many programs have commented on the decline of 'studio culture'. LaN concentrates on the importance of studio 'connected-ness' but understands and encourages in today's world that may be supported or supplied more so through digital means.

LaN expends moderate energy on understanding and seeking out the latest technologies for designers use. We are quite familiar with automated machines commonly found in programs today. LaN can instruct on the particulars and discuss ways a program can align their technology base with longer range education goals. Conversely, an academic program without advanced fabrication machinery... is not at any disadvantage in our eyes... they have the opportunity to infuse one of the greatest professional skills--technical know-how and collaborative skills to engage with industry professionals. Sometimes having the technology on-site with unreal parameters of time and economy... in some cases has encouraged more of a hobbyist use of the the technology. By keeping parameters more realistic and/or  working with industry professionals students are forced to filter creative ways around by strict requirements.
