BOULDER: (past) JAN 20-22 2012

JANUARY 20-22:  BOULDER COLORADO USA

2012 INTRO to RHINOCEROS for DESIGN-TO-FABRICATION

Evening + weekend sessions of  LaN instruction on Rhinoceros modeling for digital fabrication. Special interest will be placed on modeling for physical production through digital manufacturing means.  Participants will not only learn to model complex geometries wisely, but also iterative design approaches for design development when physical prototyping is involved (digital <> physical).

  • FRI pm //    6-10pm+
  • LECTURE : PROs of  DIGITAL FABRICATION
  • INSTRUCTIONAL :  RHINOCEROS 3D MODELING FOR FABRICATION
  • Learn the 3d modeling environment of Rhinoceros through a fabrication focus. Emphasizing commands and strategies relevant to machining complex geometries… let us frame your modeling thinking back to design, materiality, and advanced geometry. Participants will gain a geometrical understanding of surface types and how they can be analyzed, categorized, and most importantly…constructed.

  • SAT //   6-10pm+
  • LECTURE : DESIGN: cnc inspired
  • INSTRUCTIONALRHINOCAM 2.0
  • RhinoCAM leads us on an exploration of CNC milling–3axis, 5 axis, 7  etc. LaN walks participants through machinery & processes, technical aspects of Rhinocam & of course the design to production feedback loop–machining aspects that drive your design from initial phases. Output is no longer an afterthought. Rhinocam exercises include 2, 2.5, & 3D surfacing operations. Learn the process of simulating toolpaths in RhinoCAM to exporting for production.  Realize how understanding and utilizing RhinoCam will increase your design strength.
  • INSTRUCTIONALRHINO < RHINONEST > RHINOCAM
  • RhinoNEST automates an otherwise time-consuming task of optimizing multiple parts in material stock for production… learn how to operate this plug-in in your Rhinoceros environment.  Understand how to streamline processes between physical & digital modes… how to work with 3d scanned data….& continuing on with Rhinoceros modeling for intermediate fabrication strategies.

  • SUN //   6-10pm
  •
  • LECTURE : LIVE FORCES  a-live fabrication /  micro to macro custom fabrication technologies
  • INSTRUCTIONALRHINO FOR 3D PRINTING / RHINO CO-LLABING
  • From the intriguing aspects of 3d printing to wider scale implications & practices of parametric processes session begins by exploring when 3d printing is instrumental to a design process.  Participants will learn most valuable Rhinoceros tools for 3d printing.
  • Think 3d printing concepts apply to modeling realms only?  Lecture examples may amaze you by current developments on the building scale. Session continues to explore how such tools & technology are driving design process changes.
  • Today we will exercise collaborative strategies + issues while highlighting the creative resolve for time & economy of machining.
