REAL . LIVE . DESIGN

time&scale . parametric . fabrications

Perhaps it is clearer TODAY more than ever that significant shifts in economies + culture can occur rapidly—and thus the need for architectural processes capable of responding instead of simply pairing down static solutions. Architecture by its common definition is the synthesized practice of not only designing, but constructing as well. Now is the time for an architecture of investigation—a non problem-solving, collaborative, indeterminate, composite design/construction process through implementation of parametric principles.

Can architecture be understood as a process which no longer strives for a product end, but rather as a living, parametrically-performing practice? Parametric practices are moving architecture on the micro-scale through dynamic modeling and more significantly on the macro-scale towards a dynamic architectural medium—A LIVE PRACTICE.

LaN asks you to abandon representational modes of design and PRACTICE LIVE.

seminar by Monika Wittig, LaN Director

Monika currently explores the interdisciplinary collaborative potential of digital design + fabrication practices as co-director of LaN (Live Architecture Network). Currently, she teaches a graduate studio as a visiting scholar at Montana State University (Fall ’08), and tutors internationally in workshops organized through LaN as well as by invitation.

Monika has studied at the IaaC (Institute for advanced architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona), AA (Architectural Association, London) & The University of Colorado. She has worked in the offices of ReD, OMA-NY (now REX). and in collaboration with Vicente Guallart Architects. She co-founded LaN in the fall of 2007. LaN operates in a parametric manner and seeks to with re-associate architecture with a flexible, non-authoritative, temporal, & data-rich practice of SPATIAL DESIGN. LaN was selected as Denver’s International Airport’s  2007  Emerging Artists.
