A TEN DAY MIGRATING SUMMER WORKSHOP ULTIMATELY EXPLORING DIGITAL DESIGN & FABRICATION OF STRUCTURES INFLUENCED BY LIVE FORCES– PRIMARILY FLUID ASSOCIATIONS BETWEEN WIND & SAND & RESULTANT LAND FORMATIONS.  CAN WE QUANTIFY ANALYZE AND ENGAGE WITH THE ENORMOUS MIGRATING  LAND MASSES of THE GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK IN SOUTHERN COLORADO.

EARLY DAYS IN BOULDER CENTER AROUND OUTDOOR FIELD STUDIES INTRODUCING TOPICS OF COMPLEX GEOMETRIES AND DATA FLOWS OF ANALOG-TO- DIGITAL MEDIUMS.  INTERNATIONALLY RENOWN RESEARCH SITE VISITS WILL COMPLIMENT THESE SESSIONS.

DENVER PROVIDES US WITH CNC FABRICATION POSSIBILITIES @ CLUB WORKSHOP DENVER. PARTICIPANTS WILL BECOME FAMILIAR WITH LASERCUTTING / CNC ROUTING & 3D PRINTING.  A PROTOTYPE WILL BE FABRICATED FOR OUR LIVE SAND STUDIES IN THE DESERT.

SOME OF NATURE’S MOST DRAMATIC FORMS WILL BE AT OUR DISPOSAL AS WE MIGRATE SOUTH TO THE GREAT SANDS NATIONAL PARK.  LaN IS CURATING A SERIES OF STOPPING POINTS EN ROUTE. CURRENT PLANS INCLUDE REACHING JUST BEYOND GREAT SANDS DESERT TO VISIT ONE OF THE NATION’S LARGEST ADOBE BRICK MANUFACTURERS.

WORKSHOP FINALE IN BOULDER, COLORADO ~ pm SATURDAY AUGUST 19th ~ at a local public event of global proportions… entrepreneurial in spirit.

  • [ Monika Wittig – LaN Co-Founder ] Monika currently explores the collaborative potential of digital design + fabrication practices as Co-Director of LaN Monika directs LaN workshops internationally in collaboration with local fabricators as well as serving as visiting faculty at Montana State University IN/ARCH – Istituto Nazionale di Architettura(Rome). She holds a postgraduate degree in Digital Architecture Production from IaaC (Institute for advanced architecture of Catalonia, Barcelona)and has studied at AA (Architectural Association, London) & The University of Colorado. Monika credits her early architectural experience with the practices OMA-NY (now REX), ReD,  and collaborative experience with Vicente Guallart Architects...


  • [ Shane Salisbury – LaN Co-Founder ] Shane holds a Master in Architecture from Montana State University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Architecture Production from the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IaaC) in Barcelona, Spain. From 2007-09 he assistedMarta Malé-Alemany with Digital Fabrication, Parametric Design, and Studio classes at IaaC, as well as co-coordinating the fabrication lab.  As part of LaN he is currently conducting digital design / fabrication workshops in Europe, Latin America, and the USA, as well as taking on visiting instructor positions at Montana State University and the University of Colorado Denver..



  • [ Andrea Graziano –  Co-de-IT Co-founder  / DigitAG& blogger ] Architect Andrea Graziano runs an architectural practice in Pinerolo (TO), and the renowned “DigitAG&” blog about digital tools, generative design and scripting techniques, with a tooth for computational design into architecture and sustainability. He is member and co-founder of “Co-de-iT – Computational Design Italy”, which is currently engaged in teaching workshops about use of digital tools into architectural design and consultancy work.

 


  • [ Lorenza Carà – LaN Assistant ] . Lorenza recently completed a postgraduate degree in Digital Architecture from IN/ARCH Istituto Nazionale di Architettura in Rome where she had the opportunity to participate in a LaN workshop. Lorenza also holds a Masters Degree in Building Engineering & Architecture from the University of Bologna – Italy.  Lorenza’s professional experience includes 2 months in California with small design firms, Italian building companies and a summer in New York with the Department of City Planning in the Urban Design division.
